2017 High Country Precision’s Mile High Shootout

In the past, I have attended many long range field competitions. I generally like to keep my match books from those competitions, since I write down notes about how to improve next time. Additionally these match books are a great source of example stages for me to practice. It has been a while, but this is an article written to publish some of those Shooting Match Book contents for you to use as example as well.
Mile High Shootout 2017 rotated

Cold Bore – B&T Industries

This will be a true cold bore like B&T industries intended. Saturday morning after the shooter’s meeting and safety brief all shooters will go to the practice/zero range. Cards will be hung. Upon the command the first group of shooters will come to the line and stage their rifle at the firing line. The shooter will have 40 seconds to engage their numbered playing card with 1 shot.

Schmidt and Bender & Mildot Industries

While in the shooting preparation area, shooter will be handed a clipboard and sheet of paper, and provided ranges for three of the four targets. Shooter will calculate the distance of the fourth target using the provided spotting scope with Mil based reticle and Mildot Master. Shooter will also calculate range of a second random cardboard target if they so choose, which will NOT be engaged, but scored for the most accurate range estimation and used to determine the stage prize winner. Shooter will have 2 min, 30 seconds to calculate range of the unknown targets, and write the firing solutions for the targets on the provided sheet of paper while the shooter ahead of them is engaging targets. Shooters will not be allowed to write or record ranges or DOPE on any other media outside the sheet of paper provided. Shooter will be allowed access and use of their DOPE card, Kestrel, cheat-sheet, smart phone, etc., during the time they are calculating firing solutions. Once the shooter ahead of them has completed the stage and clears the firing line, the Shooter will then transition to the firing line. Shooter will have 30-seconds to prepare equipment and make ready to engage targets. Shooter will have 2 minutes to engage four full size Mil-E targets from the prone position, two shots each. First two targets have a 6-inch flappers, which will require hits to score. Last two targets can be hit anywhere on the plate to score.
