Bartlein Barrel Blanks in 400MODBB vs 416 Stainless
Bartlein has released a new proprietary barrel material, called 400MODBB. The benefit of this material is approximately double the barrel life of the standard 416 stainless steel currently in use for standard Bartelin Barrel blanks.
The cost for the new material is around 40% more than existing barrel blanks, but gives you double the barrel life. The upshot is that if you are building a rifle in a caliber with a short anticipated barrel life (for example many of the competition cartridges) the new material is a better value.
The barrel life is not guaranteed since many factors affect barrel life, but in testing over the last few years Bartlein has seen a consistent 1.5X – 2.0X barrel life by using the 400MODBB material over 416 Stainless.
If you prefer these be shipped directly to your gunsmith – simply use their address in the shipping address at checkout and we can ship them directly to your smith.
We shoot these barrels in competition and use them to make barrels for the Zermatt Arms RimX action (.22LR Precision Trainer).
