Manufactured by Feisol, The CT-3342 Carbon Fiber Tournament Tripod is durable and strong, and has 3 leg sections. The Manfrotto MT055CXPRO3 is also a 3 leg section tripod, and also made from Carbon Fiber.  We chose the Manfrotto MT055CXPRO3 because its specifications (price, max load and weight) most closely matched the Feisol Carbon Fiber Tournament Tripod CT-3442.  Overall the Feisol is shorter, lighter, less expensive but has a higher max load than the Manfrotto.

Why 3 leg sections?

The Feisol Carbon Fiber Tournament Tripod CT-3442 has four leg sections.  The main difference between three leg section tripods and four leg section tripods is the overall length.  Four leg section tripods tend to be slightly shorter when all leg sections are collapsed than the three leg section tripods.  However the fourth leg section uses very small diameter legs which mean that if all the leg sections are extended for use the tripod becomes less stable than the 3 leg section tripod.  Because of this additional stability, long range shooters and hunters prefer three section tripods.

Superior Construction

The Feisol Carbon Fiber Tournament Tripod CT-3342 frame is constructed from CNC milled 7075 billet aluminum hard coat anodized. The legs incorporate Feisol’s rapid anti-leg rotation technology with a super strong 1/2 twist lock mechanism to lock the legs in place.  Using this tripod with the Hog Saddle manufactured by Shadow Tech, shooters can take a shot securely from any position with unmatched support for a heavy rifle.

The legs of the Feisol Carbon Fiber Tournament Tripod CT 3342 can be deployed at 25, 50 and 75 degree angles, and the entire shooting tripod weighs an astonishing 2.58 lbs.  Conversely the Manfrotto 055 Carbon Fiber tripod MT055CXPRO3 weighs 4.4 lbs even without a head.

Superior Value

Manfrotto tripods are known in the military world since they are issued to our troops. Feisol Carbon Fiber Tournament Tripods are less well known but are an incredible value, and made in Taiwan one of the world leaders in Carbon Fiber manufacturing. The picture above shows the Feisol Carbon Fiber Tournament Tripod CT-3342 with a Feisol Leveling Base instead of the Feisol CB-50DC Ball Head.  While the Feisol CB-50DC Ball Head gives more flexibility in range of movement, the Feisol Leveling Base can be very useful.  The Feisol Leveling Base provides 15 degrees of movement from center in all directions similar to a ball head, but in a much more compact format.  The Feisol Leveling base also allow the shooter to get very close to the ground while still having a significant amount of adjustment in their position.

The overall length of the Feisol CT-3342 Carbon Fiber tripod is shorter than the Manfrotto 055 Carbon Fiber tripod.  Because of the ability of the Feisol shooting tripods legs to fold 180 degrees back over the head, its packing length is significantly shorter than the Manfrotto.  Using the same ball head, the Manfrotto minimum length is 31″ while the Feisol with the same ball head is only 24″, an amazing 7″ shorter.
